Teaching Public Scholarship: Lessons from Two Practitioner-Scholars

This session is co-hosted with Ohio Campus Compact and features two veteran scholars from our respective states. We especially encourage you to share it with grad students and early career faculty who are either interested in, or currently involved in, public teaching and scholarship. Seasoned public-engaged practitioners and scholars are also welcome!

Featured speakers:

Spoma Jovanovic is Professor Emerita, Communication Studies, University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She collaborates on community initiatives and activist strategies to enhance dialogue and creative action. Her books include Democracy, Dialogue and Community Action: Truth and Reconciliation in Greensboro and Expression in Contested Public Spaces: Free Speech and Civic Engagement.

Harvey J. Graff is Professor Emeritus of English and History, Ohio Eminent Scholar in Literacy Studies, and Academy Professor at Ohio State University. Author of books on literacy and history of literacy; children and youth; urban history; and interdisciplinarity, he is now writing Reconstructing the "Uni-versity" from the Ashes of the 'Multi- and Mega-versity"
